This Imlil day trip from Marrakech takes you to a village at 1,740 metres at the head of a High Atlas valley, below Toubkal, the highest peak in North Africa, and is the starting point for most walks in the area. The drive from Marrakech takes about an hour and a half, through the Moulay Brahim gorge and the market town of Asni.
From Imlil you walk with a local mountain guide for two to three hours through walnut groves and terraced fields to Berber villages such as Aroumd, with views up to the peaks. Lunch is served in a village house before the drive back. For a shorter visit to several valleys, see the Three Valleys & Atlas; for waterfalls, the Ourika Valley Day Trip.
